The Future of Marine Paint Market and the Impacts on Offshore & Shipbuilding Industry?
In the shipbuilding industry, marine coating is regarded as the best way to improve the durability of the hull and to extend the life of ships. Marine paint is one of the most important marine equipment industries to decide the level of coating quality. Most of all, marine paint should be high-performance anti-salt water coatings and anti-corrosion coatings to protect vessels under offshore conditions.
Anti-fouling marine paint helps cut carbon dioxide emissions by reducing fuel consumption as well as increase efficiency for ship operation because it inhibits the growth of barnacles and other marine organisms on the bottom of a ship. Marine paint industry is more valuable than we think in terms of the extension of vessel life, efficiency of sailing and so on, even though marine paint’s influence is so weak that it accounts for only 2~3% of total vessel cost. We have only focused on shipbuilding equipment including marine engines so far but marine coatings. Now, we would like to learn more about the current status and future prospect of marine paint Industry that plays its role well for the sailing safety and cost-reduction without any complains. We carried out a self-report survey for one month in order to learn about the current status of marine paint industry in South Korea. Response of marine paint companies based on the survey is here and we would like to thank all people who participated in this survey. |

The thing we need to do in the future is to make an effort to develop marine paint to respond to various international standards.
