New World New Leader SUNGDONG Soungdong Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. President / CEO Jung, Hong Jun |
SUNGDONG Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. is located in the beautiful southern seaside city in Korea, Tongyoung which is praised as the ¡®Naples of the Orient¡¯. It is also recognized as a large commercial vessel manufacturing specialist with its¡¯ unique shipbuilding method with environment-friendly equipments.
Among number of affiliates of SUNGDONG Group, SUNGDONG Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. acts as a main leading affiliate. Beside SUNGDONG Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., SUNGDONG Group consists of below affiliates as well. SUNGDONG Industries having the dominant market share of welding machine for shipbuilding in Korea, has developed and maintained lots of know-how and more than 30 patents related to shipbuilding technology. SUNGDONG is also specialized in constructing shipbuilding facilities and shipyard as well as in consulting shipyard construction. Throughout taking full advantages of its¡¯ all competiveness such as the most efficient on-land shipbuilding method and system, e.g., by enhancing the accessibility of logistics, by reducing load-out and launching time and by expanding the limit of shipbuilding space, SUNGDONG Shipbuilding has ranked itself at top 10 shipyards with less than 10 years shipbuilding experiences. SUNGDONG shipbuilding continuously has bestowed investments to human resources, technical innovation and environmental-friendly facilities with a through and perfect plan of client satisfaction and now aiming at becoming one of the top 5 shipbuilders in the world. ![]()

(1) Bulk Carrier (2) Product Carrier (3) Crude Oil Tanker (4) Container Ship (5) Floating Production Storage Offloading Vessels ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ¡á Technology
(1) Gripper - Jacks Translift System(GTS)
The entire vessel is assembled over the Skid Rail on land, followed by arrangement of Trastle and Bogie Train through the Skid Rail before the vessel is lifted by using oil pressure. The Bogie Train moves the lifted vessel through Skid Rail using the Push-Pull System in the longitudinal direction and loads it out on the semi-submersible Floating Dock, which is moored at the same level as that of Skid Rail. And then, the semi-submersible Floating Dock is moved to the launching area where the Ballast Tank of the semi-submersible Floating Dock is submerged to launch the vessel.
1) Whole area under the Goliath Crane to be available for any size of vessel without limitation
2) Easy handling of the utility equipments, unnecessary to remove such equipments during load-out 3) As no sea water flooding being necessary, the tandem block not to be seawater polluted and size of tandem block being unlimited 4) During vessel¡¯s shift to floating dock, the bottom area not to be taken care of repainting 5) Modulers work method to allow construction of the block over Goliath Crane capacity 6) Easy control of main shipbuilding events by utilizing gloating dock 7) Enhanced flexibility of facility operation as it is easy to convert the on-land yard to block Pre-Erection or marine structure manufacturing facility. 8) High shipbuilding productivity with reduced delivery period through improved building capabilities and proactive response to tight delivery schedule required by vessel owners. 9) Increased number of vessels built through reduction in Lead Time among a series of shipbuilding procedure and based on this, more sophisticated shipbuilding technologies being able to develop through a variety of manufacturing technologies, including minimized load through supersizing of building block and simplification of loading methods and efficient implementation of design process.
(2) Push - Pull System
As the equipment that moves the weights using the Rail-Clamp and hydraulic cylinder, it moves a vessel with the minimum frictional force as the hydraulic cylinders arranged left and right in a row in the longitudinal direction from head to stern of a vessel are mobilized together. 1) The same amount of force is applied to the entire vessel from head to stern in moving a vessel by connecting hydraulic cylinders arranged left and right in a row to frame 2) Hydraulic cylinders are mobilized together so that half the force is required to move a vessel, compared to single mobilization type hydraulic cylinders. ![]() ¡á Track Record of OLSM by SUNGDONG (1) First in the world shipbuilder adopting On Land Shipbuilding Method(OLSM) as the main shipbuilding method as opposed to traditional dry dock method from the initial stage of establishment, we are still relying on Land Build Method to build a vessel, which is unprecedented in the shipbuilding history. Since we successfully accomplished on-land shipbuilding of bulk carrier with 170,000 dwt (length-289.0 m, width-45.0 m, height-24.1 m) in December, 2008 (LOAD-OUT time: 5hours) we have played a leading role in advancing the on-land shipbuilding technologies as we have built virtually the world¡¯s largest vessel solely based on OLSM.
(2) We have developed several state-of-the-art shipbuilding technologies including Push-Pull System that enables to move a vessel that weighs twice as much as the one used in traditional system at a faster rate by as much as 25%. Our relentless efforts to break through size restraints of on-land building vessels will continue.
(3) We successfully built and launched a container with 6,500teu (length-300.0 m, width-40.0 m, height-24.2 m) in 2009 solely based on OLSM for the first time in the world (LOAD-OUT time: 5hours) (4) In addition, we demonstrated core technologies of on-land shipbuilding as we successfully delivered 170,000 dwt Bulk Carrier build on OLSM in 18 days after launching by performing the designing process, which is a breakthrough innovation, considering the conventional delivery period of 30~45 days from launching to delivery of vessel. ![]() ¡á Contact : |
